Is awareness a feature of a supreme being, or is a supreme being a form assumed by awareness?
If a supreme being merely possesses awareness as a feature, the core reality of that being must be something other than awareness itself. To posit a creator with an inherent reality separate from awareness establishes a strict dualistic divide. Since an external entity independent of awareness can never be proven, one either aligns with a theoretical assumption or anchors the inquiry in direct experience. In direct experience, the creator can only be made of awareness. Much like an intense emotion or sensation, this divine form arises as a dynamic expression within conscious reality.
This framework does not dismiss the experience of a deity as an illusion. Through the localized mind’s perspective, encountering a divine presence serves as a profound and stabilizing reality. The relational dynamic of devotion represents consciousness interacting with its most exalted form. The encounter is entirely real within the relative realm, where awareness focuses itself as a finite, localized subject.
However, personifying the absolute as an entity with distinct characteristics and an independent existence remains a conceptual limitation. An apparently separate deity operates as a specific expression of awareness, not as the ground of reality itself. Ultimate reality is recognized when the apparent division between the devoted subject, the divine presence, and the act of devotion resolves into the unified reality of awareness. ●
