What does it mean that universal awareness is infinite?

Describing universal awareness as infinite frequently evokes the image of a boundless cosmic expanse. However, within nondual frameworks, infinity is not a measurement of endless space or eternal duration. Infinity simply denotes the total absence of restriction. Because foundational awareness has no inherent borders, edges, or fixed characteristics, awareness is not locked into any single state. Knowing is boundless precisely because awareness possesses the capacity to assume any form.

In a material framework, an entity is finite because a specific form restricts its potential. Being a physical rock inherently prevents an object from simultaneously being a tree. Unconditioned awareness, lacking any solid boundaries, faces no such exclusivity. Awareness is infinite because it can freely assume the conditioned form of a rock, a tree, a passing thought, or a localized human mind without ever ceasing to be itself. The manifested forms are finite, but the capacity to generate and experience those forms is entirely unrestricted.

Therefore, absolute potential is not a dormant capability waiting to be activated in some hypothetical future. Potential is the immediate, living reality of unbounded presence intimately knowing its own freedom. ●
