What is a sage, according to the consciousness-only model of reality?

In a consciousness-only framework, the word sage points to the understanding that finite experience is the medium through which infinite consciousness knows itself. The embodied state is a necessary parameter for the experience of subject and object relationship.

The defining characteristic of this orientation is a shift in subjectivity. Transformation occurs entirely in the recognition of one’s fundamental identity. The self, pure awareness, is uncaused, self-existent, and spontaneously becomes the reality of all finite experiences without ever being altered or diminished by those experiences.

Recognizing pure awareness dissolves the boundary between mundane activity and spiritual practice. When consciousness is understood as the sole reality, no separation exists between ordinary life and absolute reality. According to this perspective, there are no mundane tasks, only the continuous unfolding of being.

No external validation is required. The realization of reality relies entirely on the direct, solitary investigation of conscious experience. To know reality, attention turns directly to the activity of knowing. Examining knowing bypasses personal narrative, focusing instead on the reality of the moment.

In this framework, there is no retreat from the world, only a lucid participation in it. ●
