If objective experience is a modulation of pure awareness, how does the knowing presence remain unaffected by the mental and physical states it assumes?
The totality of awareness remains fully present within every localized point of view. Awareness functions as both the substance and the witness of sensations and perceptions. When a physical body becomes intoxicated, the sensory data—the dizziness, the altered perception, the sluggishness—arises entirely out of awareness. Awareness assumes the form of the intoxication. However, the capacity recognizing the dizziness is not itself dizzy. The fundamental knowingness remains entirely clear and present.
The physical weight of a stone offers a tangible parallel to this internal event. The sensation of heaviness is intimately felt, yet the capacity to know the heaviness doesn’t become heavy. Similarly, the aware presence that knows the taste of an orange doesn’t become sweet. Because every phenomenon is simply awareness assuming a specific shape, the fundamental knowingness cannot be altered by the temporary qualities of that shape. Physical states and objects operate as direct modulations of awareness, while the essential presence of awareness remains the unchanging substance of all sensations and perceptions.
