Non-dualism posits that no separate self exists apart from awareness, and also that awareness cannot be conditioned. When a human being matures, what exactly is developing?

When a human being matures, the localized mind and physiological form undergo a process of development. Because there are no fundamentally independent objects existing outside of awareness, this localized expression is not a separate entity. Rather, the localized mind is a direct modulation of awareness, willfully articulating itself as form. This dynamic expression is not physical or spatial, but the act of awareness knowing itself as a specific, apparently separate self in a distinct, apparently independent environment.

Psychological maturity is not merely an appearance unfolding against a static backdrop of awareness. The foundational reality is self-reflexive and intrinsically active. Through the contraction of its own omniscience and omnipotence, supreme awareness assumes specific finite parameters, such as linear growth.

Therefore, while foundational awareness lacks nothing and requires no evolution, the maturation of the human being is supreme consciousness freely assuming the parameters of growth to experience life as a localized form. The mind’s capacity to process information refines over time, gradually expanding the localized expression’s ability to recognize the foundational reality. This refinement is not just an appearance rendered in awareness, but awareness actively unfolding as the process of maturation and self-discovery. ●
